I would like to talk about a concept called Circular Reasoning. This is when you use an idea to justify the same idea. For example, the Elkhart County Humane Society claims they have to kill dogs because if they didn't, they would reproduce and then they would just have to kill the mothers and the puppies. There is a severe problem with this claim, they don't really have to kill any dogs at all. This "shelter" as they call it, has acres of grass that they are not using. The space they use to keep dogs is smaller than my apartment. On their unused land they could easily construct a large enough cage to keep most of the dogs in Elkhart County. Since dogs are physiologically able to live as vegetarians and have iron stomachs, they could be fed anything really and survive. I'm sure they feed the dogs there very expensive dog food, and this is the main reason they are having trouble keeping more than twenty dogs. The woman I have talked to at the reception desk believes that dogs should not be bred, that all dogs should be spayed or nuetered. If all dogs were altered in this fashion, the species canis familiaris would cease to exist in 15 years. There would be no more puppies for your little children to play with, no more cute little wagging tails to greet you when you come home from work. I ask you all to listen to this hypothetical situation, which is meant to mimic what is happening now to our helpless canine and feline friends. A lifeform superior to humans comes to Earth. They believe themselves to be peaceful, but they also believe in their own superiority. They believe because they are superior, they are able to make decisions for the lesser lifeforms on Earth who call themselves Humans. They collect facts, draw up figures, and quickly come to the conclusion that there are WAY to many Humans for the amount of land our planet has. Therefore, they attempt to "help us" by removing the genitals of much of our population, to prevent us from overpopulation concerns. YOUR son was picked as one of the subjects of these horrifying surgeries, perhaps because he is an overly-rambunctious kid, or maybe because he isn't quite as smart as the rest of the population. All kids in foster homes, every child at the adoption agencies, and even kids found outside without parental supervision are taken and their insides are carved out. They will never know the joy of having a child, and there will never be another person quite like him. There are other, less permanent ways to prevent dogs from overpopulating themselves, and I can name you a few right here. 1. Vasectomy - There is no reason why we have to remove a dog's testicles. The tube that connects them to the urethra, the vas deferens, can be clipped and tied off. This is a very simple surgery. Men reading this, what would you rather have, a vesectomy or your testicles removed? 2. Chastity Belt - Female dogs also do not have to be permanently altered. If your female dog has to be outside during her fertile times, a simple belt that covers her private areas can be put on her and you won't have to worry about her getting pregnant against your wishes. 3. Keep your female dogs inside during their fertile times. Every owner knows when their female dog is able to have babies, because there is blood all over their floor. This is not easily unnoticed. Maybe we should even just deport these dogs we can't afford to feed. Dogs are pack animals and would easily survive in the wild. It has been suggested that dogs only differ from wolves in slight differentiations of genetic code. This means that if dogs of all different breeds were bred together again, the result would be almost exactly that of a wolf. A lot of dogs are almost wolf-like including the Husky, German Shepherd, Malamute, Spitz, Norweigian Elkhound, Keeshond, Wolfhound, Deerhound, and the Chow-Chow. I have had a lot of dogs. I grew up with a Beagle, an Old English Sheepdog mix, and two Golden Retreivers. My mom currently has a Black Lab mix and another Golden. I currently have a Australian Kelpie mix, a Schnauzer mix, and a Fox Terrier mix. If you care, PLEASE call or write a letter to the Elkhart County Humane Shelter. They are a YES-KILL Shelter, and this is wrong. I want to see the killing stop, but I am only one voice. |
